That's pretty cool. Seeing all of the boats and crap getting stolen lately has got me nervous. My cousin has been using my new mud boat ever since I got it, and I still haven't put it in the water myself. I would be heartbroken if it got stolen.

Yeah, and 100 bucks a year. That's not too bad.

West Marine, Cabelas, and Bass Pro carry it.

outstanding but my concern would be the battery life question, no battery no tracking.

I see this as a must have safety device for any boat just for pinpoint location for rescue in case of breakdowns on the water no more need to guess where you are if they can see your tracking. it sounds like anyone can log on to track it so this should be something that police and coast guard can do as well.

only thing is it saltwater and corrosion proof and how long batteries last and will it tell you when it needs a new battery?

It is very minimal battery drain. Lasts a long time. Or you can add a 12v accessory connection direct to your main battery.

Yes, there is a different SPOT product for personal safety. It has GPS tracking and two way communication.

Last week my girlfriends purse got stolen including her iphone. We talked to a sheriff officer since she had find my iphone on. We asked if he could go to the last address that the phone pinged and he said he can only go knock on their door and ask if they have it. Of course they would say no and you would still be SOL. With that being said, make sure you have the serial numbers for everything important and receipts to prove you own the item.
