Awesome story! I've never had an experience like that but I've seen em pretty close up and they are truly a magnificent bird.
Did have a similar experience with a chicken hawk once though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I was fishing in Toledo Bend once, I got in a little cove with a bunch of Poul do. and a giant bald eagle was swooping down on them, they would all swim away but the eagle never grabbed one, even though he was fully capable of getting one. That eagle put on a show for about 10 minutes. this was in march.

I watched a bald eagle chase a teal around for about 10 minutes once. That was cool. Don't know if he ever caught it. Also this year for teal season we set up a mojo and had a red tailed hawk come and swoop down at it and hover over it for ten or fifteen minutes.

I was guiding one morning using the herter cork decoys. It was fairly slow morning so we were kind of relaxed not watching to close when we heard a splash in the decoys. A red tail hawk had grabbed a mallard decoy and could get up with the decoy but not decoy and weight. he would fall back in the water and splash around. This went on for several try's before he finally got his talons out and flew off.
