With diesels, it's not so much about power, as it is about torque. Diesels have gobs of it. My wife had a little Jetta diesel with 100 hp, but it felt alot more like 170-180 hp. Straight off the line, a diesel will probably outgun a gas engine of equal size. But the real difference comes in towing ability. Diesels have come a long way...no more smell and no more smoke.
