I have 6 ghost rods mainly bc they are prices fairly cheap, mirco eyes and light weight. I havent had any issues with them yet. they are about a year old now. most of them have braid as well.

I would find a custom rod builder to build exactly what I wanted if you are going to spend that kind of money.

new rod search
I had a 7 or 8 yr old falcon bucco 6' 6" and closed the tailgate on my old ford truck and I started to turn to get my tackle bag off the ground. Well there was a reel hanging in midair....I grabbed the rod handle and opened the tailgate and couldn't see any visible damage. So I went to my roadside spot for flounder and was expecting the rod to explode on hook set. I fished about 6 months more until I sat on the rodbox and snapped the first 6" off the end. Wish I still had it but they don't make the 6' 6" anymore.
I like the looks of the Ducket and the weight feels good. Maybe next time. |

I hate to break a favorite rod. The cleats in my boat have cost me a lot of money. Put the rod down to unhook a fish then pick it back up and SNAP! You'd think I'd learn.
My next boat will have drop down cleats. |

Done that before. Now my cleats are on the vertical section of front deck and transom.

Voodoo will be building a new rod for me. This will be my first custom rod so I'm looking forward to it. Can't speak for quality of rod yet but we have conversed over the past few days and I am very happy with his willingness to help and his patience. Will keep you updated on the build.

Don't most of these rod makers use pretty much the same blanks. I don't think the small rod builders like Deuce make their own blanks so are they really all that different?

Yup, blanks, guides, reel seats, grips. They are all basically using the same components. They buy the pieces and assemble. |

So if that is indeed true, then there isn't much that sets one builder from another other than looks and combinations of materials that they offer in their lineup. So comparing them is a moot point really.

That's the way I see it. But that's just my opinion. It's not like they are manufacturing every part themselves. |

That's some some pretty broad assumptions from someone who does not know me or my work, so I take a little offense to a few statements made here. All rod builders do not use the same blanks/components. I've been building for 6 years and have built rods from over 10 different blank manufacturers. I do mainly use only 2 in most of my builds now due to their past performance history/reviews from customers and not because "everybody uses them". It is true that anyone can slap together a few parts and create a "custom" rod & thats cool. The difference in a "true" custom rod is the builder putting the correct combination of parts with the correct blank based on that customers specifications (knowledge/skill). I have no doubt marshrunner757 will see the difference in my product when complete.

Can't wait to lay hands on the rod. While I'm no pro, I like a rod that feels good in the hand. I have no doubt the one you're building for me will exceed my expectations. The difference in a custom rod is the attention to detail. One rod at a time instead of overseas mass production. I will post info on the rod with honest opinions once I get it and will update after some use.

I just got a new Abu Garcia Villian 7' Med. and I put a Shimano Calcutta 200GTB. I have not got to fish with it yet but I have tested it in the panel behind the house. This thing cast a country mile with ease. It is light and feels great in the hand. It is also Marked down right now from 179 to 125.
