Default Tagged Bull Redfish Gets Caught Again

My son and I caught and tagged a bunch of bull reds last March at Holly Beach. We just got a note from LDWF that one has been caught (and kept) 166 miles East out of Port Fourchon. Good times!

LDWF included a google map in their note with pins showing the tag location and the recatch location.

The LA TAG program is a class act!

I caught a tagged Red fish a while back. I called the LDW,F but had to leave a message. I never heard back, so I guess I need to call again.

Haven't fished in a while, but a couple of years ago we started tagging undersized trout. Haven't heard anything back on any of those. Would love to get some data on how they are growing.

Thanks for sharing! I've had a few re-captures but none that made that kind of trip!

I tagged my first fish on Dec. 11, 2002 and thus far have tagged 1,411 reds or specks, most of which were undersized. Of these 39 have been caught a 2nd time, most within 100 yards of where I caught it, different years and different seasons. The furthermost one traveled was from Big Rabbit Island to Lake Machent. In my opinion, as long as I'm going to have to release the fish, due to the size, may take a minute to tag the fish so that the Wild Life agency can get some info. from this. I thought I'd tagged a lot of fish but there is a Dr. from Lafayette that tagged over 1,000 fish in one year.

I think Dr. Tedesco tagged over 1500 last season.

More like 50 yards! Dave, like you the majority of my re-captures don't travel very far. The furthest report I have recieved was a redfish I tagged in moss lake that was caught at the weirs about 4 months later. It had grown 3 inches.

Couple years ago we caught a red in the ship channel that had made its way from south Florida. They sent all the info and if I remember correctly, it didn't take but a few months for it to make it to Big Lake...

Default 2 recent recaptures

Both of these fish were caught Aug 13th. The redfish was tagged in Nov of 2013 and is typical of what I see most, that is fish typically staying in the same general area. It had traveled less than 2 miles and grew 5 inches. The trout on the other hand traveled 13 miles in a little under a month.
