Sometimes I take my Banded Gear Max4D camo sneak boat out and hammer the specks under the birds.

Good, the birds that are diving and hitting the water hard are the ones you want to fish under. You never want to waste your time fishing under birds that are swooping down and just pecking at the surface.

The best way to sneak up on em and not spook em is by kayak. Now it gets tricky if the flock starts to move. The trick is to find a flock with big Pelicans and when they start to fly away you cast and hook a pelican and then hope it drags you right behind the flock. Put that rod in one of the many rod holders (I like back left rod holder because it's of the way of my cast) and fish with another one. Thank me later!

If you dont have a trolling motor set up a drift upcurrent or upwind of the birds and drift through them with your motor off once you quit catching start the motor go back upwind and repeat

Or if you have a 2-Stroke outboard you can install an aftermarket muffler that works well and won't spook the fish. Not needed for the 4-stroke, but keep the RPM's low and the prop submerged.

Always put on your best real tree camo when fishing birds,and don't forget to put scent block on your camos them trout can smell you from a long ways off.

Don't listen to these guys about using camo. You need to make the birds feel comfortable so they wont spook. Wear this and they will accept you as one of their own

I find fishing birds to be a losing proposition 75% of the time. This time of year they are mostly on gaff tops and sand trout. I find the groups of 5 to 10 birds in a tight formation the most productive. A group of 20 spread out and hovering is going to be small fish and will most likely be moving to fast to keep up with on the trolling motor. I try to get in behind them because I think that the feeding fish are basically facing the same way as the feeding birds. I like to throw tsunami type swim baits and work them with the current. Birds and fish usual feed facing into the current. I have approached them from upwind/current before and not had a bite until I drifted down current enough to present the bait with the current. I find the bigger fish corral the school of bait a lot tighter than the little ones. If you get on a school of decent trout under birds you can almost anchor because the birds won't move far.

run a 5 ft fishing line with a cork on the first speck you catch and put him back into the water lolol...he will follow the school.........screw the birds hahaha

I didn't read all the threads but I should have. Anything mentioning birds or the weirs on this site gets sideways quick. I freely admit to be a first rate snob when it comes to fishing, but I can't hold a candle to the Salty Cajun elite. You guys are my heroes.

cheetos and bread is for rookies. I have invented a gull feed that floats just below the surface so the gull dive in the water the splash is what really bring in the trout.
