I just don't get it? I go to walmart and buy a $40 graphite rod that lasts me 10-12 years before I manage to break the eyes because i just don't even try to take good care of them.

I could see a pro guide spending $200 on a rod because it has to be bullet proof and gets used every day but for the average fisherman, you don't have to go in expecting it must cost over $100 for a fishing pole.

I use these and they are perfectly fine rods of high quality

do yourself a favor and try this rod out before you automatically decide the quality of a rod is all about how much money you spend on it http://www.walmart.com/ip/Halo-Fishi...Heavy/34769863

I use these in medium and medium light 6.6 ft and they are perfectly fine rods of high quality

I agree with you.

I've yet to have anybody prove to me that they can catch more fish with their high dollar rods than I can with my Ugly Stik Inshore Select or Ugly Stik Elite rods that I bought for fifty bucks or less.

I think most fishing tackle is designed to catch fishermen moreso than catching fish. Being convinced a high dollar rod is somehow "better" than another rod is proof of good marketing not fishing production.

Have you tried spending 6 hours a day 250 days a year jigging for trout with a 7' ugly stick? Guides use high grade, high quality and light weight equipment so they don't wear themselves out. Why do professionals use the highest quality gear? Because their lively hood depends on it and they don't need to tire down when the fish want a bait presented a certain way. Trout want the bait jigged fast? Tell me how your forearms will feel fishing all day, especially on a slow day where you're casting 400 times.

Probably 15+ years ago, a fishing buddy told me about a rod he got at Academy. He said he had used it on a few trips and it was a great rod.... for $ 16.

I got one a few weeks later. This rod is a Classic Edition [I don't know if they are still made] 7' Medium light action. I have change 2 of the all metal eyes and still use the rod sometimes. It is still a very good rod.

I don't think anyone suggested that anyone HAD to spend the extra money on higher end rods. But for someone who does want to, or can, spend the extra bucks, there's are some benefits to the pricier options.

Generally, they weigh less. Lighter weight means more comfortable rods to fish with for longer periods of time.
Also, the pricier rods generally have better corrosion resistant components (guides and hardware).
Same can be said about reels also.

For me, I don't think that having nicer gear means i will automatically catch more fish. I just think it will make the owning, maintenance, and comfort of doing so a little easier. Just my two cents.

And good choice on the Duce rod. Good rod, good company, local business.

The crazy thing for us is how many rods/reels/etc we find at yard sales and flea markets for $20 or so... and the darned things LAST! So, when we break something we don't feel so bad
