Can anyone tell me if it's legal or illegal to use either cut or live blue gill/bream while fishing for catfish. I've heard both answers.

Legal. As long as you catch them on a fishing pole and not in a trap. Except at Toledo Bend. Bream can be caught in trap and used for bait.

As already said must b caught by a hook. We use them EVERY time I fish the Mississippi river. Just hook the bait in the front NOT in the back of the tail. Reason is the bait will get weak and then will turn around with the current and the current will hold the gills out and kill them.
