This is nothing new, in the past you still had to pay sales tax unless the boat was over ten years old. After ten years no sales are taxed.

Not true at all. Bought my 2012 Basscat 4 months ago and paid taxes on just trailer. It's been this way for a long time, until now. Just another way for govt to get our hard earned money.

Used to only have to pay taxes on trailer.

I just dealt with this last week on my boat I bought OUT OF STATE!!!! Not sure how I can pay a LA sales tax when the purchase wasn't even made here.... but oh well. Anyway, the purpose of my post was to tell y'all that LDWF told me it only applies to boats over $2500...... so make your bill of sale for $2k and you are good to go.... hope that helps.
