It has been a long time since my grandfather had his farm and bailed alfalfa. My brothers and I were old enough to do the cutting and raking. But when it the guy came to bail the hay, granddad had him bail it at 50 to 55 lbs [the cost was like $ .15 per bail] so we could do most of the lifting and throwing the bails on the hay wagon. Now my question...... those bails look almost too green. I remember the alfalfa bails to be a brownish green color. Should this farmer let the hay dry a little bit more before bailing the hay? If the hay is still "wet", it could mold while in storage. This was 50+ years ago, maybe my memory is off a bit. |

I know one of the guys who bought some from my brother the last time he brought it down. It's been in his barn for a few weeks now with no mold at all.

Set up at a one of the race tracks and that stuff will sale quick for $16 a bale. It's around $23 at a feed store around here if you can find it.

Yeah, that's what my brother and his buddy did and they sold it pretty quick. I'm looking more at making a good connection with someone that's just needing about 50 bales a month and taking care of them. I work 14&14 up there so I will be able to bring down 1 load a month for now. If I can sell it easily, then I'll buy a bigger trailer and start bringing back more. If you know anybody that buys it on a regular basis, let me know please.

Them bales look too skinny and way to long. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uJOWe02uBIw Sorry I couldn't resist, but don't they have a bunch of horse farms in Arnoldville, might be worth a shot. |

Thanks for all the advice guys. I'll be heading out for OK in the morning and I'll be back September 19th/20th I'm still looking to make a connection with someone looking for 50 bails (or more) per month and taking care of them. If I can't find anyone then I'll start making some calls to the people that y'all suggested. Something I didn't say in my original post is that if you don't live too far from my normal route home I'll bring it to your house or meet you somewhere close.
