Weir Fishing Help

Went to Big Lake yesterday and was fishing the birds until about 11:00 (boated over 100+ fish) when they disappeared. I had read about how good the fishing was at the wiers, so I made the run. I get there and these to great guys called us over and gave us their spot. Now is where I need the help. Stayed there for about an hour and all we could catch was black drum on shrimp. All the boats within spitting distance were putting reds in the coolers except us!!!!

How do you fish the weirs? Do you use shrimp, mullet, artificials? Fish deep with heavy weight, or light weight and drift the bait? Where do you position the boat?

Well, from when we fished it a while back, We'd catch on both carolina rigged, or popping corks. Jordan on the site fishes there alot, send him a message he'd probabaly be able to help you.

If we'd throw soft plastics, just have to make sure you stay away from the rocks.

when i fish there i use a 1/2 ounce jig head with dead shrimp on bottom

i like a 1/2 jig head with an lsu sand eel tipped with a small peice of fresh shrimp.. Only been there a couple of times but it worked good for me

Fish the current on the east side(left as the picture that fool posted). Just where it starts the bend. Cast out ahead so that when it drifts by the bend it has time to sink a little. If you are out of the primary current you catch the drum. That's what I have found. Also anchor as close to the rocks as you feel safe to. I use plastics tipped with swimpsez fo da smell.

Thanks, looks like was just a little off the sweet spot. The only down side is the number of boats that try to cram into the mouth. How many weirs are there and where are some other ones? trying to get my son into some bull reds.....he caught his biggest (28") yesterday.

Starting from the North:
Connine(Peconie), Mangrove, Grand, Lambert and T-boys.

Not sure about the spelling on the first one.
I have seen fish hitting swimps on top around the crab traps outside the bayou mouth. The fish are not just in the bayou part. Just stay in the swirling water.

Was there today around 12noon . Fished Lambert weir's. Anchored right in the main flow of out going tide. Rigged up a 1/2 jig head with pearl white gulp shrimp.Threw right in the middle of water way and Shazam fish on; repeated this for four more cast . By the third fish people were becoming very observant and changing tactics. Fifth red in boat I pulled anchor and drifted away from crowd and headed out .
