My son has shot two deer with a bolt action .223. Both were about 150 yards from the stand. He uses Hornady American Whitetail 60gr. Neither deer had a blood trail but neither deer went far. They fell dead at about 10to 20 yards off of the road. Both shots were placed right behind the shoulder. Shot placement is very critical with that caliber rifle.
