So the spot lock doesn't drain the battery by fighting the wind?

The follow the contour feature uses Lakemaster which is not available in Louisiana lakes, is that correct?

Best to use the big optima or odyessy batteries with any remote steer trolling motor. Gotta pay to play.

Not a problem! I like the Riptide ST and would love playing with the i-pilot link with the Humminbird SI unit. But I'm not seeing that I'll get much better chartplotting use out of it. Seems it's a good side imaging unit and as far as mapping, I can get the same navionics maps on my ipad.

Does Lowrance have better maps than Humminbird for this S.LA region? If so, they have SI too, so I might as well go with that even though they may not be compatible?

I like lowrance better myself....I think they do have better maps. You can buy a chip from standard mapping for any part of louisiana. They can put up to 3 areas on one chip, they are only made to work with the lowrance HD models. Here is a pic of the lower miss delta area with the standard mapping chip...

Is the foot pedal the only way to use this trolling motor manually? What If u dont have the foot pedal and ur remote.....
Let say the batteries died in the remote, left remote home. Etc. ? Trouble shooting???

The ipilot does not have a foot pedal....don't leave the remote home and keep spare batteries.

It seems like the speed and direction control using the remote would be a challenge to get used to.

It wasn't hard for me at all. I got the hang of it my first trip out, in 15-20 mph winds on big lake.

Tried out mine Sunday, didn't get to fully test it like I planned as we were mostly fishing offshore with the nice weather we had but I am impressed so far.
