Thanks
Thanks.
I hear about how gross the river is, been out on it a few times just cruising, but have avoided the basin since I know nothing about it, other than its easy to get lost and there's a lot of people out there that may help you get lost. And the closest thing I have to a GPS is my phone. Thanks for the advice, I'll take all I can get. |

Poo attracts flies, flies attract frogs. I don't see where you can go wrong.

Granted the Vermilion river does have lots of floating trash and debris, but I don't think its any dirtier than other waterways in south Louisiana. The floating trash is more cosmetic and doesnt make the fish or other animals that live in it unfit to eat. Lake Hendrson as well as many other very popular lakes are highly contaminated with heavy metals such as mercury and PCBs but alot folks that post on this forum regularly eat fish caught out of these waterbodies.

But BasinMaster is right, besides from catching fish directly down stream from some kind of discharge (I have done and they tasted funny, only once) I don't think eating as much fish as you could catch would do any harm. All that water ends up in the same places you fish anyway. |

I've regularly frogged the Verm during the summer months. Never catch a lot but we do catch some monsters. They taste the same if not better than the frogs caught in Henderson. Eat them on a regular basis and haven't died yet. You can also catch some nice size cats in the Verm if you play your cards right.

I attended a gulf coast safety and training group meeting last friday at the Petro Club in Laf.
We had a speaker from St DEQ.. His presentation was on water quality of Teche, Verm. and Lafourche Bayous. He indicated that Teche/Verm. watershed are at this time; very clean and fish are extremely safe to EAT. |
