It does not look to have the markings of Diamond back water snake.......but I don't have a better guess. Maybe it is just a young DBW and the marking are less visible.

the diamondback water snakes get big, and fiesty. i've been bit a couple times by them while running gilnets as a kid. they think they are a water mocassian but without the poison.

if you have a pic of the belly it should have little black half-moons on its belly Like YOU said above, sorry! |
