I considered myself a good guide when they tipped me even when our limits were not filled. Time in the field is not always about the kill but the fellowship between like minded individuals. Back when a $100 tip was big time, I had several days when we did not shoot a limit but the Sports appreciated my effort and stories and thus rewarded me appropriately.

All I know is that I never had a complaint on a guide if they killed ducks or caught fish. I can't say the same if it was slow. We always work harder and stay out longer on the bad days but somehow it gets lost in the shuffle. I agree that some real sportsmen appreciate the effort and experience, but far to many equate enjoyment of the trip to bag or creel numbers. Can't change it, just have to except it!

Believe me I have had my share of bad hunts and tuff customers . And Its all about seeing the sunrise in the marsh for me more than anything now. |

I have gotten better money on a poor hunt, bird wise, than when I went and killed limits and were out the blind in only an hour. I took some fellows for an afternoon hunt, left the camp with only 1 1/2 hours to hunt, had to stop for gas because they were on empty. Finally get to the field with only about 20 minutes of shooting time left, killed 4 ducks and got a $200 tip. Then they asked if I was satisfied!!!!!! Warren |

we can't make them fly and we can't make them bite but we can always give it our best shot.

Raymond, I know exactly what you are talking about. I took 2 guys one morning in the lake with my boat, got 3 limits of ducks and a speck and didn't get squatt. The next morning, these same 2 guys went with another guide plus 7 other hunters and come back with 3 specks and gave the guide $50 from each of them. I told them how chicken shiat they were and then they offered me $10. Talk about a kick in the nether region.

I think most sports have a tip amount set before you leave the the landing. We all hope it's a goggle eye but sometimes it ends up being a handshake, just way people are. If the guide and the sport "click" sometimes it is more and if they don't it is usually less. I have hunted with actors, athletes, musicians, politicians, sports writers, head of industry and uber successful lawyers and it is still the same. Some people are generous some are not. Wealth has little to do with it.

A guides job looks good on tv ,but there is lots of work and long hours behind the scenes to make it all happen. |

We always try to get at least a $50 tip built in on the check and any cash is Gravy. If we didn't 1/2 the sports would stiff ya.

If you have a sport that has worked for tips and you show them a good time the tip will be better than from some guy who has no clue.
