went yesterday made it to the water around 2. went and checked out cocahoes (very nice place) met W again. He tried to help me by telling me where to go i just suck.....anyway started on the east bank struck out, waited on shower to finish on west bank headed over there, notta this was working on my patience. bait fish everywhere, specks jumping out the water. i through my whole tackle box not one bite. so i went to west cove. first spot nothing second spot birds everywhere picked these up on those. the fish and birds where all over in west cove. i left early so i could make it back before dark. if i knew what i was doing i probly could have caught alot more. i guess im gonna have to pay a guide to show me how to fish.

Usually finding the fish, is the hard part.
IMO......what bait you use in not as important as how you work the bait. The key to catching fish is mostly in the bait presentation. Figure out how the fish [trout] want "you" to work the bait......fast, slow, on the bottom, up near the surface, etc. is the key to catching fish. This is why 2 fishermen can use the same bait and one person may catch a lot more fish than the other person. |

everytime i have worked a set of birds the fish always like a slow presentation when throwing a jig head. also a popping cork works very well for the birds and when u see the fish close to the surface. i just dont like using them. my buddies use them all the time though and out-catch me sometimes! and if this happens i will just start working my bait faster.

My biggest problem tho is learning where to start looking for fish on any given day. Anybody have any useful tips on that please post up.... This would probably be a good thread in itself?

Start with the wind. Whatever way the wind is blowing, the cleanest water will most prob be in the area most protected by that wind. SE wind would mean that u would wanna work the east side all the way to the South. That's more than likely where the cleanest water will be. Then just walk that dog! Lol I'm definitely nothing close to an expert but that's what works for me. Just be patient and try one area for as long as u can stand, walking that dog(I prefer a Super Spook, very easy to walk), and scanning the surface for bait, fishing hitting, birds, etc. If the fish are there and u are walking it right, u will get at least a few strikes on top.

Working a bomber jerkbait on top is good too. Its alot easier than walking the dog on a topwater.
