can you have a dump on your property?
Old washers, freezers, mowers, beds, pipe, swings just generally everything these folks don't want to pay to bring to the dump the last twenty years they have brought to the back of their property and dumped it. It's right next to my place and makes us both look like white trash. Can anything be done about it? |

I'm guessing it could be considered as some type of littering/illegal dumping. Have you talked with the neighbor about it yet?

Call the parish! They've really been cracking down on that and broken down cars!
It would suck to have to look at that every day and you shouldn't have to. |

It will probably be handled like a junkyard and they will have to build a fence... I would definitely talk to the neighbor before contacting any authorities

I had the same problem.(with dumping) Got no help from the city because we are zoned 'rural'. Good fences make good neighbors . I've had renters next door for about ten years and had to fence mine to keep their muts out of my yard. It sucks but the $3000 saved me from going to Angola...

It's tough deal........he is an old fellow that has been here for years and the dump is on the back of his/our property which are large tracts.....I'm at 16 acres his is 30
He believes the property line to be one place, I know it to be different. He has pulled up the markers twice now. He give my son ten kinds of ugliness thinking he is riding the four wheeler on "his" property. So basically if he calls the cops on my son, then I will turn him in to the DEQ or something on the dump. He has been back here for sixty years, me just 13, but He has intimidated all the kids back here for years, they are now living on family partitions back here and now he is on their kids too...... old school crap......"I own this road you can't ride you golf cart, go cart, four wheeler, motorcycle on it" crap. I love the old man ...just had enough of him cornering my son back in the woods riding his four wheeler. And I think it's going to come to a head soon. |

Get the property line survey from the court house...

He would only corner my son once. Then we would have a serious problem.

most town's and cities have ordinances against having old cars rusting away in the yard and dumping especially on property lines, most are only enforced after complaints. IDK if ascension parish has a code for dumping I'd call the sheriffs department to see if there is and if they could help

You might try the 'catch more bees with honey' approach. Example, "Hey Mr.-----, I've got some scrap guys coming to get some old junk. Is there anything you want them to get rid of for you ,like old washing machines, refridgerators or such ?" As far as him being confused about the property lines, that's another story. He will probably go to his grave thinking he's right. Those old 'codgers' don't give up easily...

depends on the area...that's gonna be a rural area and they are a lot more "whatever" about being out in the country...if there are more neighbors around that have the same complaint, you might can get a petition started stating that by him having such an ill managed property, it is decreasing the surrounding properties values and would prevent anyone from getting fair market value if anyone was to sell...Good luck on whatever you do to solve this issue

First of all, those items have a value for the metal. We have a guy over here in Pensacola that makes a living hauling this type stuff to the scrap metal yard. He does advertise on the local forums "Free hauling of anything metal.
Second of all, a buddy of mine did the same thing in Jesuit Bend (below Belle Chasse), the EPA came out, arrested him, fined him, it was not pretty. Those items you refer to have hazardous material within. |
