Default interesting potlicking story

Last year i made a trip to grand isle without the boat to do some wade-fishing. well me and my father caught a few on the island, but then we decided to go to fourchon. he stayed around the truck and i took off walking to where i saw some birds diving. There was one boat in the area and he was on his trolling motor further out catching a few every now and then. I start casting off the beach into the first trough and i start wailing on nice trout 14-18" long. boat sees me, and runs right up on me. i'm about knee deep and he tries to get his 24 foot triton right on top of me. baits flying all around, it was madness. they got so close to where i could hit them with the tip of my rod, and that is when i lost it. I dont think they ever heard such colorful language in there whole lives. the one thing i told them that sticks out in my mind the most is "i dont have a boat, yall do. Why cant you go find your own fish instead of running up on me in knee deep water?" cat had their tongue. luckily, they got frustrated because every time they moved out a few feet i'd haul in another trout. it was priceless. I'd never run up on someone in the water no matter how many fish he was catching.

Birds, catching fish, potlicking, was the gu y on the boat a short guy?

Just curious, those ingredients always seem to make for good story telling.

Pull out the camera next time someone comes too close.

If they ask....tell then they will be on the Internet......showing the world their lack of consideration.

A lot of them don't know no better.
They think if you are catching, they can too.
Don't worry about ethics or courtesy.

you would think that these people, being about as old as my father would have known better. I guess ignorance comes in all ages, all forms, and all walks of life. usually dont encounter that with the older and wiser crowd. mainly the other young people that just dont give a damn.

Last weekend there were 3 boats surrounding a reef, all of us fishing with rod and reels,
trolling motors in the water, couldn't miss it.
Some dummy behind Grand Isle came running on plane, right in between the 3 boats.
Extremely stupid individual. All of us hollered and tried to wave him off before he cut
between us. My wife even flipped him the finger, both of them.
Just after screwing us up, his wife heard us and noticed the fingers flying from every
boat.
She hollered at him, telling him he just messed up our fishing. We could hear her very
well. His name was Richard, my wife heard that much. I would call him **** if I were
her.

I had a bad experience out of Cypermort Point a few years ago. We fished Saturday about 10 miles south of SW Pass. We tied up to some wooden poles and wore out the 3-5 lb. trout. Some young guys saw us and came in and tied up to the next pole about 20 yards away and they too were smoking them. No big deal. The next morning we went to the same spot and the same guys were on the poll we were tied up to with several other guys in a big offshore boat this time. I killed the motor about 70 yards out and trolled to the poll they were tied to the day before. When we tied up we casted the opposite direction as them and thye start shouting and throwing 1 oz. sinkers at my boat. Then one guys cast his line in my boat. I wrapped it around my hand and start trying to jerk the pole out his hand as hard as i could until the line popped. This went on for about 10 minutes until I finally lost it and started my boat and pulled up to them. It was a buch of 17-18 year olds running there mouths and i think if I would have climbed in there boat I would have drowned someone. I finally trimmed my motor till it was about 3 inches under the water and gunned it around them about 10 times. In no way did I effect these guys and the fact that they did the exact same thing to us the day before which we had no problem with really pizzed me off.

I carry when fishing. No one ever told me different.
I have been boarded by the USCG and the first thing they asked me was if I had a firearm on board.
I told them yes, they asked where it was located. They got the gun, removed the bullets until the
inspection was over and handed me back my gun and bullets.
They told me they do that for their protection.

I just can't stand when someone cuts off a drift or especially a wade. I don't mind if they come in behind or flank around the outside, just leave me the water I'm looking at and casting to.

But no matter how much we talk about it here, it will still happen.

I've seen the beachfront look like a used boat lot at times @ Elmer's island, Fourchon, and GI (esp. the State Park rocks). There will only be feet (or inches) dividing boats and waders. When the boats see the waders on fish, they will creep right on you and then spook the fish you were catching. When you can have a conversation w/ a boat full of people w/o shouting, then you know they're too close. I've had to let them have a piece of my mind once or twice too. When lead jigheads or flying treble hooks star banging their boats, they get the message. If they want some, then they can come get some. Don't pot lick me. It is funny when you see them stuck on a sand bar.
If I'm in a boat in the surf, then I will respect a surf fisherman's right esp. because of their limited access. I know it hurts to see someone catch fish and you can't get on em. I've been there both ways. But c'mon, give me some space!!

Guys ive always tried to respect the fact that if someone is fishin an area before i get to it, its his spot. Ill try to stay up wind to try n drift toward but not on top of him. Same thing if waders are present. These guys have very limited areas they can fish n if im fishin an area ill definitely go way around em and above all else be as quiet n courteous as i can be. Now on the flip side ive had tons of guys in boats creep on me while im wadin and blow the whole spot out by runnin on top of it throwin four ounce bottom rigs with dead bait n so on. Ive already got into heated and i mean heated arguments with predominately younger guys and i even hopped intheir boat cus sum guys like ta think they are safe in a boat. Well needless ta say the coast guard and police were called. **** em is what i say especially ta inconsiderate people. Ive waved many a people onto my spot once i was done. There are some courteous guys out there but also sum idiots
