i lost my pos anchor and i heard that the mighty might is the one to have. need some input.

Just save you the hassle and buy an 11 or 16.5 pound sand anchor. Jerry's has the 11 pounders in stock. I think they are really called a shovel or claw anchor. Anyway, those things will stick a ship. They work on reefs and at the short rigs offshore. I believe they are around $40. Need to rig em right, though. If you get one, pm me and I'll show you how to make the anchor so that you'll never lose it. Just takes 4 foot of 3/8" chain and tie wraps. We ALL use them as guides. Mighty Mites are outdated. They won't hold offshore in 30'.

A buddy of mine shared a trick and it works great and it won't cost you an arm and a leg.

Go purchase an inexpensive danforth anchor and attach 6 foot of rubber coated chain to it. At the end of the chain that you attach to the rope, use a carabiner and attach a 3 lb mushroom anchor. It works amazing. It changes the angle of the danforth and will grab in any type of substrate.

yeah mighty mite anchors are expensive.. but ive sold a bunch of em. people like them .. a bud of mine has one on his boat and we have gotten it stuck in rocks but it comes out usually with no problem, the hook tines bend out under some pressure. just dont tie your rope directly to it.. tie your rope to a couple feet of heavy chain and attatch that to the anchor.. helps it dig.

I have a Cajun anchor, works good, except in hard sand.
I found out that Grand Isle has a lot of hard sand.
Wore the trolling motor batteries out over there.
Had to get me a heavy azzed 30 lb. anchor for G.I.
That thing wears you out just picking it up.

ha lost my anchor weekend before last.. fortunately a few weeks before that i caught a grappling anchor with my anchor. That grappling one works awesome. Sticks you in a quick second

I have one of these for my 19' G3. Works pretty well with the chain and proper rope length (recommend the 18# anchor for up to 24'. They recommend a 4:1 depth to rope ratio for a good set. Claim that anchor should hold up to 30 knot wind...not sure about that). I have a 6' coated chain attached to the business end. Still somewhat pricey (about $75) but I really wanted something that could be easily stowed away not consuming to much space and could work in a variety of conditions. The only problem I had with it not holding was fishing the Cameron Jetties in 3' to 3.5' swells with a fairly strong south/southwest wind. There were a lot of boats and probably didn't allow enough rope to properly hold due to a limited area to set-up. To dang rough to be fishing there in that boat anyway. If it does hang up you just keep tension on your anchor line and drive forward allowing the anchor to free itself. Never got it hung-up to where I couldn't release it.

i have this same anchor and the perk to it was that it fit in my nautic stars factory anchor storage, holds good to

Probably better advice there Ray. This was the factory reccomendation. The anchor does a pretty good job at holding on a variety of bottoms and comes off of reefs fairly easy without taking up to much room in your boat. I never really paid to much attention to the amount of anchor line I had out. It was always a matter of feeling how much line I needed to let out and if it didn't hold and I had enough room to allow for additional line, I'ld give more to hold the boat in place. I haven't fished deep water requiring the anchor. The deeper water I've fished was around platforms and I always tied-up or used the trolling motor to stay on point.

I have never been where my mighty might would not work with enough rope out and I can unstick it even in rocks. Oh and it fits in my anchor locker too.

I have been having one for 6 years and have not had a problem with a 4' chain and 150' rope. I will say that a mud anchor holds better offshore and I have to let out alot of rope with my grappling out there. Any kind of shallow water and it works great. It's also easy to get out if it gets caught on bottom. Just tie rope to cleat and the caught arms will straighten out freeing the anchor.

I saw a guide at the Johnson Bayou rigs a few weeks back throw his anchor at least 5 times before he gave up. No chain and he was trying to set it as soon as it hit the bottom. Finally, he tied up to a fellow guide boat.
