Default Turner

Turners Bay 9-3-10

There were 25 boat trailer at the Calcasieu Pt. boat launch @ 6:45 AM.....a few more than normal.

Started in Turner's ~ 7 AM along with ~ 8 boats. In the next 15 min. there were ~ 15 boats. I did not take long to spot Gulls circling in the area where fish were schooling.

When the schools poped up......it was a site to watch. There would be anywhere from just a few fish to maybe 50+. The schools were mostly Red fish with some Trout mixed in.

The fish did not stay on the surface long, but could still be caught in the area.

We finished with 9 Redfish [my partner can't count] and about 10 Trout.....3 going over 21". Only 2 of the Redfish were under 20".

We each caught ~15 more under size Reds that put up a good fight.

Most of the fish were caught on soft plastic......many different colors and shapes. I caught several good fish on a Top Dog.

The winds were light.....tide was high, and not moving. Water was good with 12" to 16" visability. Sun got very hot.

Really only had a problem with one boat. When he trolled up to schooling fish.....he would slow down the trolling motor, but kept going farward until he passed over right where the fish has just surfaced. He did this 3 or 4 times.....tried to get away from him, but he would come back.

Nice report and nice catch. I'm heading overseas this weekend but will back for next.

I bet it's going to be crazy out there today and tomorrow. Looking forward to the stories....
