Default Coast Guard Approved OUPV (6 Pack) Course starting March 2011

Captain Roy Weeks of Capt Roy's Marine Training will be presenting a Coast Guard Approved OUPV (6 Pack) Course starting March 2011 at the Lake Charles Sail and Power Squadron. This is a great opportunity for you to get your license and not have to travel. The course will be taught over 3 weekends. Class will run from 5-9 on Fridays and 8 to 5 on Saturday and Sunday.

Does having your Capt Liscense disqualify you from fishing certain tournaments? I have thought of starting to Guide part time in a few years and want to start preparing but would still like to be able to fish STAR etc until then.

To guide in La. you also have to purchase a license from LDWF, I believe, that is the license that most tournaments say if you have you can't fish thier tourney. NOT 100% SURE THOUGH.

On a different note, I took the class with Capt Roy in 2001. Great class and great guy.

It all depends on the tournament. Some allow guides, some don't.
The captains class is a good one. When you leave, and pass the final test, you are a captain. You don't have to go to the USCG to take the test. The class and test are approved by the USCG. So Capt. Roy teaches you everything you need to know in the prep. course, then you take tests for the USCG license at the same time.
I did the same thing for BCO and Barge Supervisors licenses that I need for work.
Capt. Roy also teaches a one week class in just South of Houston for those who can't make the weekend classes.
The hardest part of the class is Rules of the Road.

There are some fees for your testing/license for the USCG also.

I just got mine this year, took a class in New Orleans with Houstan Marine, It was a Bit(h... LONG process... You first have to obtain a TWIC card to start the class then you have to pass the class, next drug screen, physical, homeland security BS, mail that off and 3 months later if the coast guard does not find NEthing wrong with your app. you will finally obtain your Capt. Lic... o yea First Aid is involved too!!! Good luck Capt. John

I hold a couple of USCG license's but I already had them before the TWIC's were required.
I also am required to have random drug testing by my company and the DOT. So, all I have to have is a signed paper on company letterhead stating that I am a candidate for random drug testing for my job. I don't have to have the drug test for a new license.
