Default Calcasieu Night Fishing

As I'm sitting here wishing I was fishing and watching the weather for the weekend hoping that front stalls till monday... I started thinking of some of my best fishing memories -- fishing the lights at the end of the runs on the N. shore of lake pontchartrain with my dad.

These days, those lights and the runs they were attached to are mostly non-existent. I still get over there when I can, and now dad lives on the lake -- sans run and lights thanks to Ivan? and Katrina.

So I'm curious if any of the runs on Big Lake, Prien, etc... generally have fishing lights and if they do... whether the land owners are amicable towards boat fishing "their" lights. Or perhaps Rita took 'em all out?

?

If they are on, you can fish them. Some people have them on timers to keep the fish coming night after night at the same time. Some people turn them on when needed, some are on timers. The winds are kicking pretty good right now. It won't be fun fishing tonight.

Plenty of lights and several are on timers. However, the owners will turn off "their" lights if they are fishing them and boats come in trying to fish them as well. For the amount of money they pay for the piers I don't blame em...

Good manners go a long way when fishing other folks lighted piers. I believe most don't mind if you ask permission before preforming the Olympic anchor toss.

Thanks for the wealth of information in the replies. I'm very familiar with the etiquette. Hell, for many of the folks we knew along the lake, we'd actually bring 'em fish the next day.

I may give it a shot on Big Lake one of these days soon. I'll be sure to post a report.

And when I wrote "their" lights in the original, I really meant "their" fish. Of course, the lights are theirs.
