Default Saltwater Locks

Does anyone know the rules/regulations on the opening of the saltwater barrier near LNG - the one just west of the swing bridge on the Gulf Hwy. I just wondering if a recreational boat wanted to travel through the intracoastal what to expect. Does it open on time intervals, or does it open every time a boat of any kind is traveling through? Do you have to call, radio, or just a visual? I've gone through the locks on the southern end of Calcasieu River, but was wondering about these on the intracoastal. Does anybody know how it works?

I used to work there. Gates open as needed. Radio is best way to handle it if you have one. The barges will have right of way so if there are barges lined up to get through, you may have to wait until they can get you through. I think radio is channel 13 for waterway structures. They will tell you what to do. But recreation boats would come through all the time.

Double check radio channel. It may be 14.

Locks are Ch. 14, but you have to call the Black Bayou Bridge on Ch. 13 or phone number (337) 437-9216 to get thru.
The bridge controls traffic thru both the locks and the bridge.
If you call the locks first, they will direct you to call the bridge on Ch. 13.
The Grand Lake Bridge is also on Ch. 13, it is the one close to Boons Corner.
