Never thought of this. Will have to give it a try on the days where they just slap at the bait. Thing's got enough hooks to snag em

That kinda plan will work cause I've been using top Pups in the surf and gettin short strikes and then I tie on a 51 MR Mirrorlure and I start hookin up. I'll have to try that jerk bait; gotta Long A in chrome/blue back.

I do the same thing in freshwater too, but with a fluke that is roughly the same color as the topwater.

You can remove the center hook. A fish will grab this bait head first, so, the front treble will do most of the damage. The rear one comes in handy when they follow it to the boat and take a shot right before you pick it up. I change the hooks to Gamakatsu EWG #4. If they get anywhere near it...it'll git 'em.

I always have a follow-up bait tied on for that reason. Usually a X-Rap

I thought about taking the back hook off a Spook and hookin' up a Bomber about a foot behind. Not sure the Bomber would have any action with the side-to-side motion from the Spook.

I often change the back treble to a size bigger skirted treble and usually that adds enough weight to let the back sink a little in the water. changes the action a little.

Hopefully next week (if the conditions hold) I'll be able to do some experimenting with em in the surf down in Galveston or Surfside. They been tearing a new one into the trout down there the past 5 days with the wind being 5-10. It's ice cream conditions again today, but I gots other things to do unfortunately.....

Larger hooks kill a Bomber. I've tried all that. I have a test tank at home...remember?
