There was some discussion a while back about a dog at five months being able to handle an easy duck hunt.
Here is a video of Quaid at four months (on the 23rd) he is honoring heal, not breaking and land, water, land retrieve. He is NOT perfect, but we are getting there. We ARE shooting over him BUT NOT a shot gun yet, just a 22. We limit him to five retrieves a day, on different places on the property. We work him on leash in the morning, I come home for lunch and spend five minutes or so working him off leash, sit, stay and here stuff. There are a couple more videos and I am open to any advice. http://youtu.be/9zVuVeRugDw http://youtu.be/3RJ5X09OFyE The second visit is actually a "re-send" and he took a little direction. |

Just a question and not knocking the vreed or dog, but is it normal for him to be that slow as far as not running? Maybe im just used to my labs trot being some dogs sprint. Looks like he's making good progress, how soon till he hears a 12 gauge?

You bring up a great point.
Yes, he is supposed to be that "slow" he is very deliberate and purposeful (if that make sense) The speed helps when he is pushing rabbits or woodcock when that time comes. We pushed him this past weekend to a 22 mag short nosed revolver, the little gun bangs my ears pretty good, he just kinda perks up and looks at me as if to say "that was cool do it again" If the weather holds I am going to take him with me dove hunting Saturday but only to be around the guns and multiple shots. He delivers to hand too at heal, the videos all cut short. I am really happy with our progress |

My old Lab was in the blind at 6 months old. He picked up over 300 birds that year.
