I believe the silver circle in the middle will determine the direction in which the boat travels. Also, the lever to the right of thr silver circle will make the boat go forward or backwards. Boats are much more efficient moving forward. The closer the lever is moved to the console, the faster it goes.

just have to play with the jackplate to find the best spot while you are running. when Im offshore I leave mine lower in the water offshoe than I do inshore cause it will handle the waves better

Most of the time there is no reason to touch the jack plate unless you are running skinny. And like Meaux said, when it's rough put it all the way down.

Be careful of getting it too high when running. Strongly suggest a water pressure gauge.

Its mostly for skinny water but also for more speed.Once your trimmed where you need to be then you start raising motor.Youll feel it run!
