Default Opening Day..Trout Fishing

I am new to this site and it looks like a great bunch of guys and gals for sure.

Opening day for trout was April 1st but the lakes were still frozen and lots of snow on the ground. We finally got out earlier this month and here is a few pics I wanted to share on what a great day we had fishing for speckled trout. The laughs and smiles tell a great story!!

You got that right, especially in the Bay of Fundy. The place we are fishing though is not tidal waters. It is a fresh water run leading into a lake. I started a thread in the saltwater category (Big ole Stripers) where we were fishing stripers in tidal waters off the Bay of Fundy. When the tide turned (called a Tidal Bore), you better get off the shore real quick as the place you were standing would be 5 feet under water in a matter of 10 minutes. We now have turbines in the bay which are run by the tidal bore, it is completely unbelievable unless you see it.

Sure is...Canada Geese are in the thousands, mallards, teals, wood, etc....we live on the Atlantic Ocean and this is the migratory spot for water fowl. I don't do water fowl hunting any longer but I do know people who do. I have attached the link to our regualtions....

As it happens, today was my first time out trout fishing this year (a Colorado reservoir). My wife and I put 20 trout in the boat, a mix of brown, cutbow, rainbow, and cutthroat, but the limit is 4 each, so we kept 8 and released a dozen. It was a beautiful day to be out fishing. If any of you are ever near Colorado Springs, give me a shout. May and June are the best months for trout, but we've done well at anytime from April - October. We troll spoons in the reservoirs, if you hope to go fly fishing, you'll have to find an expert, cause I am clueless as to that game.

Thanks for the post Black Bear. It is awesome to see some different territory. Beautiful country up there. You ever get to Louisiana bet someone will hook you up to catch some real speckle trout!

Sounds like a great day and thanks for the offer. Like you, I don't know how to do the fly fishin thing but I do have a fly rod in case any of my clients, while I am Black Bear guiding, want to do some fly fishing.

You never know, I just might be down that way some day. Those little speckles sure put up a nasty fight when using small tackle and a feather weight rod and they are some yummy.

I used to fly via float planes into lakes in Northern Quebec and catch 3-4 lb speckles and they don't fight like the small brookies or taste as good. That being said, it is more fun catching 3-4 lbs'ers than it is 10-12 inchers.

Is that how y'all measure the fish, from the guide closest to the reel all the way to the fish???
It sure looks like beautiful country and some chilly water. Who's watching out for the bear?
Thanks for posting those pics.

Ronnie

Churn Good one

hahahahahaha....good one Ronnie...you sure wouldn't want to fall in the water this time of the year, bet the most a person could survive would be less than 10 minutes before hyperthermia set in. The bears are not too active this time of the year as they had their cubs over the winter while hibernating and little sluggish as there isn't much food for them and the weather is cold enough they are still a little dormant. Here is a nice sow with 2 cubs I had hitting 1 of my bait sites last year...they were totally awesome to watch

Hahahahahaha....you gotta be kidding. This is just a little extra we do when bear hunting when a hunter gets his bear early to pass some time. Believe it or not, they are a lot of fun to catch on light tackle or a fly rod especially when there are so many of them. You must have been looking at my web site as this is part of the package.
