Default Made it back from Grand Isle...

Who would have thought that the three days we were there would be three straight days of "slack" tides..lol, no tidal movement at all to speak of. We fished the "rocks", fished coves around the island..ladyfish and rat reds...

But, we caught the hell out of the crabs, bless whoever invented crab traps..had never used those things..they are the best. Crabbing with no lines and nets while sitting in the air conditioned camp with Jim Beam was a true blessing.

Naturally we got caught in a heavy rain storm..after I told my fishing partners that we needed to move and they whined about having to leave the boat. If you ever tried fishing with 3 friends who had never used 7 foot poles, well lets just say that I worked pretty hard..and braided line is not meant to be used by rookies, lol.

We had a blast, though, and the four hour drive was worth it.

Yes sir, Grand Isle is a special place. Bummer about the tides. Crabbing and hanging out is not a bad back up plan. :-) I drive it from Houston on a regular basis. Good luck on your next trip.

Default Fishing has been slow down there.

My dad just came back after spending Tuesday-Friday in Grand Isle, and they only caught 15 or 20 trout during the entire time they were there. Ran everywhere from Four Bayous to Timbalier, and they couldn't find fish anywhere.

August can be frustrating.

The East Tim rocks at the Gulf (just west of Fourchon) have been holding fish - but really 'Indian Country' with submerged rocks. Also running N towards Lafitte has been paying off.

My brother has talked to a lot of the local guides down there and they all say that this has been a bit of an 'off season' for trout in numbers. Everyone speculates about the reason - weak trout hatch, weak shrimp hatch, salt water pushing further north, spill effects, etc.
The steady 3 man limits still happen, but are rare vs pre spill days per the guides. Even Cocodrie has fallen off since May vs 'normal' catches.
Stlll worth the trip to GI and others species have been cooperating. :-)

GI is my home away from home. This is definitely the time to load up on the crabs. Many a day at the camp midday in between fishing outings peeling crabs and having a few cold ones. Glad you had a good time!
