If it were not for storms my first choice would be Grand Isle. Then south of Houma Dularge, Dulac or Cocodrie. Check the classifieds on Louisiana Sportsman. There is a nice raised camp down in Dularge right now for a good price.

If you like fresh water also I'd recommend Stephensville, Belle River or Pierre Part. It's excessable to lots of good fishing that is protected from large water level fluctuations and an easy drive to New Orleans, Cocodrie or Grand Isle. Waterfront property is afforable in these places. It really depends on what you want.

Lake Charles area has a lot to offer, you are close to saltwater and freshwater plus you can be far enuff from gulf incase hurricane blows in. The are camps on both sides of the Big Lake area from the gulf all the way north of Lake Charles and when you get above I-10 there are camps along the rivers that give you access to freshwater and you are still minutes from saltwater by boat.

If you don't want neighbors, good luck. If I was moving to south la I would want neighbors, we know how to cook and help you out.

You also getting up in age and you need/want medical care close by, therefore you would want to be close to a city with car access, fishing camps don't offer that.

South of Houma is nice. A really nice area that is relatively high in elevation to the rest of the area is Bourg, LA. You can pick up property with house and batture for under $200,000. You could fish saltwater in Montegut and if you like the duck hunt there is also the Point Aux Chene Wildlife Refuge. You could also fish freshwater in Lake Long, the Company Canal and all of the canals off of it.

That would be my pick.

Find a piece of land in the area you want and build. South Louisiana is pretty much neutral for great hunting and fishing rather it be fresh or salt! Welcome to the site!

Just stay south of I-10/I-12 for easy fishing access. There is more water than land down here, it is almost impossible not to find a place to fish.
