My son (8) wants to use some of his birthday/good grades/allowance money to buy one. I don't want him blowing his bank on it so I'd like for him to stay under $100 bucks or so..... anyhting worhtwhile?

I used to race them a lot. Had electric and nitro powered setups. I'd say $100 isn't gonna get him a bunch but, it would give him a chance to see if he likes it or not. Radio Shack or Toys R Us may be the way to go on a first car for a youngster. If he really likes it, he can upgrade down the line.

Does Harbor Freight sell RC cars?

I think I remember reading that they sell RC airplanes.

I just got a hell of a deal on some rc helicopters if you are interested in one pm me. I was in the right place right time in Dallas at market when they were giving great price on wholesale lots. I've got 15 to sell.

10 times better quality than wal-mart and toy r us has. Indoor and outdoor models.

I use to race electric and nitro started when I was 8 also with my dad... Go to a hobby store who sale R/C cars... The best started is electric... Traxxis are great and team losi depending if he wants off road running r/c or road raving... I have everything from monster trucks to drift cars... So much fun... eBay is a good place to find a used but great condition...

I also used to race a lot and the best advice I can give you is to make sure you buy something that you can fix. Traxxas is a great brand for beginners. It is very easy to find replacement parts for them and they are easy to fix. Otherwise if you buy something from radio shack and it breaks it is trash.

He has quite a few cheap ones that he broke. I will defeintely look for something that he can upgrade/fix. I've heard of Traxxis, I'll look into those as well as the Losi. Thanks fellas.

Whats the model and where did you get it?

Is it gas/electric?

How long does the battery last?

its an Electrix rc ruckus, I bought it at Big Boy Toys, they also sell them online, it is electric and will do about 20 out of the box and the battery will last about 20-30 minutes of hard running. it is a very good first rc vehicle for the price, i think i paid about 150 total and it comes with everything you need out of the box

look online, I am big into r/c everything especially planes. towerhobbies.com horizonhobby.com ebay, there are plenty of places that you can get great deals on decent stuff. the ones at walmart, and such places do not last very long, and are pretty crappy no matter what.
