I just bought the lowrance hds 10 and 7. Only have had them in water a few times, but am amaze at what you can see with the structure scan. If you ever want to drive down to Lake Arthur. I would be glad to go for a ride in over.

I've got a Humminbird 898C SI unit on my rig. I don't know what price range you are considering but I don't regret purchasing my unit. It's a great chart plotter and the side imaging and down imaging capabilities are awesome. I use the side imaging all the time now to map out oyster reefs I already know about and I've even found some new ones just playing around with it. The down imaging and side imaging sonar translates to a very clear and detailed picture on the screen. It is user-friendly and I'm very happy with it.

I went with Humminbird for its simplicity and it also has a trolling graph feature that gives you a great reference of where you are and where you want to be when you are in open water. That feature alone is the main reason I always buy Humminbird.
