Default Dulac 3/18 morning report

Saw the next blow in the forecast and wanted to get out when I had the chance. Went waaay back in the marsh to the clear water. Ship Channel was bumpy, but dead still and "gnatty" when I shut down.

Tide moving out - was still doing so when I left - but water nice and high. Started out throwing a bone Super Spook, Jr. and the fish were intent on playing slappy-slappy. Hung a 21 inch red on top and few dinks on a Mirrodine, then moved on to a pond for a shot at a big girl on a Super Spook, Sr. No such luck, but the ditch it connected to was full of 14-16s with a few 18s mixed in. Coincidence or not, fish got more interested in flushing when the breeze (mercifully) picked up.

Got a few fish more interested in topwater and started bouncing around a bit. Sun came out and went back to a 'dine and a cheap Academy knock-off (pink/chartreuse), which the fish both loved. Clouds moved in and topwater turned on. Switched back and forth to get a feel for the 'dine bite (real one was on a spinner and the fake, bigger one was on a bait caster) and tickled myself watching the trout slash it.

Lots of mullet and bay anchovies in the ditches and a few needlefish thrown in for the buffet, but no shrimp. Even the dinks had broad shoulders, been eating good for the coming spawn. Fished 7:30 to ten and imagine I released 20 trout and a rat to go with the keeper red first thing, all on hard plastic. So good times! No pics, sorry to say. Somehow the Iphone 5 batt ran down despite turning off the tune in app

Last trip ten days previous there were still a good number of gray ducks holding, but today was nothing but Mottled's and BWT. One big gator in the main canal, too. Spring is here!
