Strawberries are giving me the berries!
Have any of you noticed how crappy the strawberries are in the supermarkets? Dey look great....but they taste like cardboard dipped in red dye. What happened to the strawberries that are grown in real dirt, in the ground, with blemishes and odd shapes BUT are red through out, sweet, juicy and great smell. At this time of year I like to make strawberry ice cream, daiquiris and preserves. But I ain't gonna use that garbage they selling in the stores. I might have to resort to buying from one of those road side pick-up trucks that advertise home grown....anybody have a good source? .....and I might add the dang peaches you gonna see in a month...looks great but just as soon eat a ball of cotton. What ever happened to good produce? rant over! |

This I agree with, I bought some the other day, grown by the Liuzza Brothers in Ponchatoula. I slice some, add some yogurt and granola cereal, sprinkle a little sugar on the and they GTG. Them road side stands are the way to go if you run across some. |

When I lived in Laffy we used to get all Veggies and Fruit at Fresh Pickins on Kalliste Saloom. They used to be real good. Wish we had one in LC.

Last year and before the Fresh Pickins' had great strawberries. It must be early for field grown and what we're gettin is those hot house berries grown in sand and liquid goup. |
