Cameron Jetties Fishing Pier Advice
What should we use either live baits or artificial baits for trout/reds? Would the north winds be good to fish than the south winds? Would we allow to walk to the beach to fish on the surf east of Cameron Jetties Fishing Pier? Does it allow us to castnet for baits? Many thanks and I’ll look forward to having some fun there. I'm by no means an expert in the Cameron-Calcasieu area, but I fished the jetties a few times this past August/September...first time trying.
Didn't catch limits of specks, only between 3-6 each trip, but BIG trout, bigger than I've ever caught. Bounced plastics around the rocks. Stood on jetties a couple times. Couple other times, I fished the rocks right before the park (that way, I didn't have to pay the fee). Specks would bite earlier in the morning, then I would switch to bait shrimp and catch flounder and sheephead. LOTS of flounder in that area along the rocks. |

Fishing Pier
You are allowed to fish the beach east of the jetties but not allowed to use a cast net from the fishing pier. You can use one eslewhere. I found that live bait worked best when I was there in the middle of summer.

There is a boat launch on the road going to the fishing pier... I've caught bait around those rocks and boat launch a few times with my cast net... just be wary of the rocks and dont let your cast net sink all the way.

The pier can be tough. If you are up for it, I have found walking out onto the jetties can provide better fishing and greater ease when it comes time to net a fish. Walking the jetties is tricky though.

Wear good tennis shoes and be careful, sometimes sand tracked on the first part of the jetties can be slippery. I used to walk all the way to the cut and saw some interesting critters, like cottonmouths, a gator and some coons, but the further south, the better the fishing was. Good luck!
