Headknocker A/C is officially dead

Horrible day at work didn't get any better when I walked into a very warm house. Compressor is done!! Now I am faced with the decision of just changing out the outside unit or replacing the entire system. Im thinking in the long run it makes "cents" to change it all out(12 years old. Any real preference for brand, and heat pump vs conventional info is appreciated.

Im replacing a Frigidaire 5 ton, 13 seer, cooled living area is 2300, and I like it COLD

Thanks

12 years isn't that old. Especially for an inside unit. I'd just change the outside.

Im a refridgeration technician that works out of Lafayatte. There us a lot of hype behind a lot of equipment on the market these days. The most important thing is the quality of the installer. Most of the major name brands are all just as good as another Theres truly no need to spend 12 thousand dollard on a trane a/c.If your looking for a good deal I am licenced to purchase equipment and can do so for the maurfacturer and can give you some too quality work. And save you a lot of money.pm me if your interested

I have a 5ton Goodman with heat pump, as said before there's alot of hype on brands but for what I spent I can replace this unit 5 yrs from now and be into it for less then most others wanted to charge and its got as good of warranty.... I had a unit like this in my last house that was 10yrs old and never a problem

Heres the price of a good man air handler 4 tin is 425 dollard and the condecer is 899.Thats the price I can get it for.Ill charge you the price of the equipment materials plus a thousand for labor.Probably run you around 2600.For a complete change out.And Im a commercial technican who does residential on the side.Nothing but too quality work.

Last time my "compressor was out", it was the capacitor that was out. Cost me about $30 at the local A/C supply place and took about 10 minutes to change out. Saved me a few grand vs. the hard sell, lets replace everything routine.

Is it a r-22 or 410- a refrigerant? If it a r-22 your going to have a hard time finding a Condenser. They stopped making them a couple years ago. Might want to look at upgrading to the 410-a. As far as units go, goodman is your best deal I'm my opinion. Good units paired with a lifetime compressor warranty if you buy the set.

Thanks for the replies, Ruud heat pump going in Saturday, replacing everything. Replacing just the outside unit (r-22) didn't make sense in the long run
