My company sent me to. Two week mud school at MI Swaco in Houston.
There is A LOT more to mud engineering than one would think!!! It is very in depth some of the things they do with drilling fluid. We were there just for a two week course but we studied with a group of guys that were there for the full three week course who were training to be Mud Engineers. Those guys were putting in some serious time studying for their weekly tests. Im not sire about what these guys get paid though. Ill ask around at work next week and see if I can get some more information for you. |

Mud engineers do pretty well, but the chemistry that goes into drilling mud is very in depth. Most of the mud engineers I work with we're either chemistry or petrochemical majors in college.
I had thought about going into it, but decided on m/lwd instead. Less time offshore and the opportunities that come after a career in mwd are endless. The paycheck is better on the lwd side also. If you've got a college degree, you've got a pretty good shot at it. There are alot of small companies that are starting up right now. |
