Made it out bright and early to just enough wind to muck up the reefs and islands I wanted to fish. Completely struck out hour one and decided on the only real decision I had left, to go long to some protected water. Water much better and got a hit on cast two: 11 incher. 100 yards down a 15 incher blasted the SS Jr. Put together a few more on that drift with plastics and so began a long drought til around 9:00, when the bay slicked off to almost nothing. Started spot-hopping and struck out again, even waded one of my favorite reefs with good water and not a strike. 10:30 rolls around and there are 3 small fish in the box and a camp full of relatives arriving in three days!
Disgusted and hot, I headed in and decided to give Spot #1 another shot. Water was good, was trolling motoring in on high and casting casually when it began. Nearly every cast from then until noon whenI left them biting with any soft plastic was met with multiple strikes. Lots of throwbacks and misses from little guys, but more than enough 13-16s to fill the limit in short order. Didn't try topwater with the high overhead sun, was enjoying the pecks and the thumps. Tide change did it again as a line of dirty water was slowly advancing on the area the whole time, in fact the prime early AM spot was dirty the whole time.
Anyway, good times!
