Fly fishing can be pretty expensive to start out. For a cheap good rod check out allen fly fishing, they have lifetime warranty. For trout and reds I would go with a 8 weight. http://www.allenflyfishing.com/compass-rod-series/ For a reel a good "cheap" one is the orvis. http://www.orvis.com/store/product.aspx?pf_id=3R44 For flys it's hard to beat the classic clouser pattern. PM medheavy6'6" on here he is a orvis endorsed guide and ties flies,he will hook you up.

Im getting into it also, made some trips but haven't dedicated one to catching yet just bring the fly rod along sometimes. Was actually gonna start a thread to see if anyone here fly fishes and wants to get together sometime.

Fly fishing trout is a tough go of it unless you get everyone onboard doing it with the same fervor. It can be very disheartening to put the rod down on a good artificial bite and then not have that immediate success with the fly while you find the bait and/or rhythm. If you've got a partner then dodging backcast and still ripping them is a test to dedication.

That said, when you get on a good school in range you can absolutely blister the fish. Imagine missing a fish and immediately pulling the bait up, maybe one false cast and back into the school, where another strike is waiting. Talk about good times!
