When we went to Clingmans Dome earlier this month I thought about how cool it would be to do a trip like that. We actually crossed the Appalachain Trail going to Clingmans Dome. That would be a good a starting point. Everything from there both ways is pretty down hill.

I know it's a ways away but, the wife and I just got back from a trip that included the grand canyon. They have an awesome selection of trails that traverse the canyon. Trails are available for a variety of distances (over night as well as multi-day) and all experience levels. we are definitely going back next year and giving the easier trails a shot. Beautiful country out that way.

I looked at the Little Missouri Trail. That's something that I think I could handle. It follows the Little Missouri River for 18 miles. http://hikearkansas.com/s.w.over10.html |

Believe it or not you can do that in Louisiana. We have the Wild Azalea Trail just outside of Woodworth that runs to Valentine. There is a loop off of the trail that goes around kinkaid lake. You could start on the Valentine side hike the Kinkaid loop and hike the Wild Azalea back to Valentine. It has been a long time since I hiked it so I don’t know what kind of shape it is in but I know it is still there.
If you check with P&P they have group trips that go or they could give you plenty of info on the trail. Here is some info: http://hikinghq.net/tj/tj_wild_azalea.html http://packpaddle.com/where-to-go/hi...-azalea-trail/ |

Missourri Falls is part if the Eagle Rock Loop in Oua****a National Forest in arkansas. It is a 26 mile loop with pretty tough climbs and river crossings which get dangerous when the river level is high. This was the first serious hike that I went on and when I got to the top of the first of six climbs I knew I was in over my head.
I hiked the loop in the spring earlier this year. It is a 3 day two night hike. One of the most extreme things I have ever done. Missourri Falls trail took about one day and it was by far the easiest part of the loop. There was no climbing and you followed the Missourri River the whole time so it was easy to not get lost. There are some river crossings on this trail so be sure to bring some crocs or flip flops so you dont get your hiking shoes wet. Being wet really brings down your moral when you are hiking 9 hours a day. That being said it rained on us from the time we hit the trail until we stopped to make camp the SECOND night. Ever try to light a campfire in the rain? It was a great experience and I highly recommend it. We saw deer, turkey, and beautiful streams along the entire trip. The equipmemt can be expensive to get started. if you get serious about planning a trip let me know. Im sure you can borrow some of my gear. Its still in the same spot that I put it when I got back from my first trip.... I have some pictures of the waterfalls, campsites, and trails I will post when I get to my laptop. |

She did warn me to check state gun laws. I didnt bring one. A gun would have taken up precious weight in my backpack. When you are hiking 28 miles with something on your back every pound counts. |

Thanks Mako....... I'd just like to something 15-20 miles and not to strenuous. The Little Missouri trail looks pretty easy. I'd also like to take my son along, he loves being outside and doing things like that. Maybe early next year I'll try to put something together.
We went to Clingmans dome one a 1/2 mile hike that has a 480' Elevation change and I ha to take a couple breaks. I'd hate to have to climb up hill for 8 hours. |

For those into hiking.
http://www.hikelouisiana.org/trailinfo.html For those into mountain biking, SingleTracks.com is a great resource too. Some of these reviews double as hiking trails too, they post pics and user info... |

If you want to do an ATV ride check out brimstone. We went several years ago and loved it.
