Default Turkey around ville platte

Ok two part question here. 1- are there turkey around ville platte? And 2- is there such a thing as white peacock? Bear with me here. I had to run up to Alexandria this afternoon. On my way back just before the ville platte exit I see this white bird. At first it looked like a egret, but as I passed by it looked like either an albino turkey or white peacock. Wish I would of had time to turn around and snap a pic.

What kind of habitat? Rice field?

Wood storks are in that area and they are a strange looking bird if you have never seen one - very large with a funny head (aka gourd head)

White turkeys are common in farming as they are the turkeys you eat for Thanksgiving

There are turkeys north of VP that were stocked a few years ago,to my knowledge the landowners were not supposed to hunt them for a certain amount of years think they were put out by N***.The farm that I hunt on is near that exit and had peacocks running around the last few years, they were put there by the landowner along with other exotics, however I have never seen a white one.

I really think this is what it was. I don't know what a peacock would of been doing out there.

Yeah then not wood storks

They are in the fields, won't find em in the woods, which is ironic because "wood" in the name and all

yes on white wild turkeys, they exist, likely leucistic and not a true albino

I have seen turkeys on the side if the interstate in that area a few times. I used to drive that road a lot when I lived in Monroe. Never saw a white one though.

Default Turkey around ville platte

I have seen white turkeys before a few times in St. Francisville. Don't know if they are albino. Used to see one all the time years ago. May have been the same one. I called up a solid white hen one time about 5 years ago.

Just got one of my friends into turkey hunting last year. He has some property in Mamou been having all his life and said he never saw a turkey before out there or any sign. I told him to go ride out there before daylight this spring and sure enough he heard 2 gobblers.
