So Thursday I received a new prop I ordered a 12p and hit rev limiter at 3/4 throttle so sent back and got 14p had basically loaded boat with just me I was running 5550 WOT perfect then a buddy called to see if I was catching I picked him up at launch and couldn't turn over 5100 he's about 175lb guy. I was discouraged so yesterday I pulled prop off and there was a huge wad of braid wrapped around from side of thrust washer and prop shaft, seal was fine. I hadn't had a chance to run it again but anyone thinks that would affect performance or it's the added 175lbs cut me down 400rpms?

I would guess it's the extra person but that's just a guess.

More info would help. Boat type, size, weight. Motor type, hp, etc.

I personally wouldn't think the string would make you turn higher rpm but you never know beings where it was at and the given circumstances. But 5100 rpm isn't something to be discouraged about I wouldn't believe. Is it a small boat?

No I'm thinking the string slowed my RPM's I was running 5000 I think I picked up the string same time I picked up my buddy. 400 rpm is quite a big loss, at least I think so |

175 lbs is a lot more weight for a light aluminum boat with a 50 hp motor. An 8-9% reduction in RPM makes sense, since you probably have a 15-20% increase in weight.

The braid isn't helping though. |

50 hp 35+ MPH is pretty fast for a 15 foot aluminum boat.

50hp should get you close to 40 in a 15ft, I run a 25hp on a 1648 and I get right at 30 on good days, usually about 27 with two people. 14p seems like way too much for your boat, 13p makes more sense if you are hitting rev limiter with a 12p.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I thought I had it figured out this time but looks like I'll be spending another $40 and getting the 13P

Another thing is weight distribution in those little boats. I have a 15' boat and sometimes have to put heavy things (fat friends) towards the front.
