Default troll motor

Okay, pulled up on a set this morning and no troll motor. It is about 6 years or so old and trying to decide if it is worth trying to fix or not. Pretty certain the pc board in the head is out. It is a 74 lb black minn kota riptide.

Opinions?

What brand and model are most of you using and opinions on them. Have to stay with 24 volt.

thanks

I have a 80# MK Riptide Pro....It has that lift assist boot....You can raise and lower it with 2 fingers.....Real nice feature. You will have some that say MK is better that Motor Guide or vise versa.....I think you see more MK on boats that Motor Guides!

The control board for most trolling motors sell for ~ $ 100 plus labor if you don't change it yourself.

I bought one from Ebay this past spring.

i just swutched from minn kota to a motor guide i do like the metal shaft on the motor guide cause if it bends you can keep fishin if you breaks the minn kota composite shaft your done for the day. plus the motor guide seems too bounce around less when not deployed and running in rough water

Pox for the MinnK you need to add that little shaft/brace that keeps the head from bouncing. Like on mine!

I've used both and I personally like the motorguides better. The minn kota is nice but I think the motorguide is more durable. I work at a boat repair shop, and they both break. We have had some problems with the new minn kotas not working out of the box. Then again the new motorguide varamax is junk, stay with the older style and you will be fine.

I'm with Pox. I've had Mercury trolling motors for years and never had a problem with them.
