I don't have any use with those reels, but in the same price range you can get Academy's brand reel, which is H2O express, and they make a mettle. I have bought some as presents for some of my relatives and they all really like them. I've thrown them a couple times, and can say they feel a little more sturdy than the black max that I've messed with only in stores.

As mentioned I have a couple H20 Mettles and for under $40 you can beat them. I don't fish enough to buy a $200 reel and a $150 pole so I use my $40 reel on an Ugly Stick.

i've been using shimano caenan's since they came out for mostly trout n reds so for freshwater they ought to be bulletproof. only thing is i dont know if they still make them. i think i paid like $89.00 3 years ago and went with these cause they were salt water app. almost impossible to bird nest. i prefer these over the $175.00 revo's i bought.

Thanx guys.Price point is a factor but not as much as it used to be,to me.I started baitcastering (?) with a Shakespear 310 alpha that worked real well til the level wind failed;but after 5 years I figgered my $22.00 was well spent. Now I use it for bait fishing for cats along with a 2000C Shaker,( $32.00 ).The Alpha taught me the fundementals and I got confident enough to want to go a little better.I hear alot of good things about the KVD Quantum from BassPro.

I have two ambassador 5000 that my grandpa used and gave to me back in the 80's. I normally use my spincast but when the fishing is very hot and the big boys are out the ambassadors are the go to reels for me.

Get on ebay and you can buy some Shimano Caenans for $45 - $55 dollars. It may take a little while but I have 6 of them. Three of them came from academy at $89. I fish salt water and fresh water and they are 2 to 3 years old.

I picked up 2 promax rod and reel combos a couple of years ago and I've had no issues with them. They're in the boat right next to the curado and with some good p-line they'll throw a 4 inch lizard weightless just as good as the curado ( maybe not so buttery smooth ) but for less than $100 for the rod and reel I'll pick up a few more.

Unless you're buying the Daiwa Coastal reel I wouldn't mess with any other Daiwa reel in either salt or brackish water. The bearings are prone to rust and corrosion and will,go,south on you real quick. Don't have any experience with the other reels you mentioned but as mentioned in other replays the H20 reels are a nice alternative at a great price.

All I throw is abu's I have black maxs and pro maxs also have the cheaper blue max and silver max all I have to say is awesome!!! The blue max had some slop in it but that's expected out of a 30 dollar reel after 2 seasons with as much as I use them. I find them way another then the h20's but that's just my opinion

The 100 dollar lews is hard to beat....they are smoother than a curado.
