Gonna tackle changing the water pump this weekend. Downloaded a very thorough tutorial thru Sims Yamaha, and think i'll be okay as i've done a few on smaller motors in past. Anyone on here done that type work and can offer do's or don'ts? Thanks in advance.

dont worry it is a very easy job.
Dont forget about the bolt that is under the trim tab on the lower unit. They also have two stainless pins that go in a hole in the lower unit and in the housing of the water pump. Most kits come with new stainless pins. They are a pia to get out of the lower unit so I never change them.
When you put the LU back on tighten the bolts evenly.

Be very careful putting the lower unit back into the mid section.

There's a plastic water fitting for your water pressure (I believe) that's very easy to break. If you don't have the drive shaft lined up square on the first try, do not twist the lower unit to make it fit. That little fitting will shear off if it binds against the mid section. Pull the lower unit out and turn it a little by hand. It's a cheap part, but a real PITA to have to go back to the dealership to get another one (and hope it's in stock).

Got it done. Fairly easy job as stated. Had more trouble removing the half-moon key on drive shaft than anything else. Thanks for tips.

My brother changed his and it had been 5 years and the key was rusted in the shaft. He had a machine shop friend remove it with a EDM. Make sure you put neversieze when reinstalling the keyway. Good to grease the propshaft under the prop also. I need to change my wp next year.
