It was a nice day and I called Captain Shawn to see if he wanted to go looking around. We wanted to see how things had changed in the river. I never even took any ice with me for fish just a bag of ice for our drinks. The winds were up so we did not run very far. we picked up a bunch of just under rat reds along the banks. Shawn caught a keeper. He did not want it but I decided to keep it for myself. Soon after that I landed a keeper. I had no ice but I had that situation covered.
I will say most of the short ones we caught were very healthy. They had broad shoulders and were very solid fish even for being 14 - 15 3/4 inches. A lot of them had some beautiful spots also.
We did not waste a whole day out there but managed to put 8 the livewell. It was not our intention to limit out.
Came home with a few that I intend to give out to 2 families that will greatly appreciate them. I filleted them and packed them in the freezer because I did not have the time that night. Snowball (the cat)photo bombed me again. Can not get close enough to pet it but it is always around watching me and even following me when I am cleaning the boat or cleaning fish. The stainless dish is for my house cats not the outside one.
The next day I had a trip that was a bit of a struggle. The big front was setting in with very high winds. Throughout the day we struggled to get any keepers. We had a bunch of rat reds but I only managed 5 keepers and a trout for my efforts. A tough fishing day.
They were to go with me the next day so I had a chance to make up for the tough day. Unfortunately the weather shut us down before we even launched.
Life is Good!
Fishing is not a matter of life or death. It's more important than that.
