I've enjoyed a little time off with a trip to a Puerto Rico but it was back to work this morning. February is a very inconsistent month to fish. Sometimes you go out looking for reds and you find trout and vice versa. Water temp plays a big part. Steve Orgeron, Chad, and Brad joined me on the Bluewave. We started drifted bayous near some ponds with our Green Hornet Matrix. Water was low so the thought was to find the reds coming out of the shallow ponds to a little deeper while the tide was falling. To my surprise our first fish was a trout. Then a red and back and forth. Not lighting the world on fire with 6 trout 3 reds and a big freshwater cat we headed further north in search of some more trout. With only a throwback to show we switched gears to soaking bait shrimp on the bottom. Bingo the guys were fighting fish every cast. A ton of rat reds but we did find 7 keeper reds, 2 puppy drum, and 24 heads in just one spot. Once the tide slacked the bite shut down and took it to the dock. Big thanks to Capt. Marty for setting up the trip.
