Default Removing foam in aluminum jon-boat

Got a g3 1548 with a 25. The back deck is completely enclosed and I'm pretty sure is filled with foam.
The way I see it. The foam does absolutely nothing until you flip or take on water.
This back section is a complete waste of space, in an already small boat. I would love to have hatches and storage in this large area.
I do put the boat in some rough waters from time to time since I fish coastal waters. So a wave coming over the bow isn't terribly far fetched, but it hasn't happened yet. I know this isn't ideal situations for this boat, but im just making the point that I'm not fishing small ponds and bayous.
Thoughts on removing the foam?

Anyone do any mods to there jon boats similar that could share lessons learned and pics.

Thanks
