Older Anglers ?

Just wondering ? This board seems to have alot of younger guys . Bay fishing can be so physically demanding at times , im ONLY 60 , was wondering how many older fishermen my age or older are out here ? The walk up the ramp to my truck gets longer and harder !!

I'll be 57 in February. I just had to learn to pace myself and realize that I'm not 20 anymore. I do things a little slower, but I can still fish all night at Toledo or Vernon. Just learn your limitations and go at your own pace.

I am in my late 60's ..... and bought a new boat 4 years ago. I still hope I can get many more years use out of it.


I have learned that "catching" is not as important as having a good time. I have learned to know when to call it a day.... and not over stay out on the water. We eat fish about once a week, and I still have fish in the freezer, so I must be doing something right.


I was going Bow hunting this week, but family matters changed my plans. Maybe the weather stays cool, and I can go next week.

My grandfather still gets out there on Toledo Bend and Big Lake. He's in his low 70s. He's set in his ways for sure and much like Mr. Gerald stated its not all about catching to him anymore.

I'll be 57 in Dec. Definitely move much slower/deliberate than I used to.

I'll be 59 later this month. I still love wade fishing in the surf and taking the kayak out to the point, beaches and jetties. Extreme fishing can get pretty strenuous at times but I'm a firm believer that fishing lets you age gracefully.

Well, I'm 50 and already notice a difference. Probably not a good sign for me. But, I'm on the water every week and do my best. Like said before, it's more than catching now. It's the boat ride as the sun is coming up, the morning air over the water and the feeling of a perfectly clear mind while fishing.

Some of you that posted can look toward many more years of fishing. I'm 82 and fished in the marsh yesterday, but no longer fish alone.

I'm 49 and still try to stay out like I was 20. I used to fish 5 days a week and most were tournaments. I don't do a lot of tournaments anymore. And I found that I can't take the sun as long. I bought a catamaran a few years ago and rarely fish inshore anymore. But I can only do 6-8 trips offshore a summer. It beats me up when it's 4-6' seas.

stay active and exercise. There was a news clip some time ago about a 90 yr old women still climbing trees to get coconuts.. When asked how she still does it, she said "I just never stopped doing it".

59 now and slow but not quite done. My catch philosophy has definitely changed. I just cant stand at a cleaning table like I usta. Those days of ice chest full of sac au lait are over. Those wash tubs full of catfish etc. Now we are content with 12 sacs and have left tehm biting many times or continued catching and releasing just for the fun of it. It's hard on me to go by my self launching and picking up are tough on a fat guy si I dont go as much as I usta and do lots of bank fishing for cat fish instead. I just cant take the summers any more and bout all I can do is cut the grass. Now that today is posed to be the first day with our the 90's I am getting excited to get back to fishing. I have become a opposite-Yankee They stay in and hide from the winter cause of the cold I hunker down cause of the heat.

I'm 61 years old and fish somewhere every weekend - Either Sac A Lait in NW La/E Tex, or Reds and Specks in Big Lake! Was taught how to fish for both by my Ole Coon Ar$e Paw Paw!!!

Gotta say, it sure is nice when I have a partner that can help launch and load the boat!

I'm 66 and still fish Big Lake every chance I get. Been doing it ever since I was 6 with my Dad.

My wife's grandfather is in his early 80's and I've literally watched this man CRAWL to his boat to go fishing and hunting. He finally gave up hunting and now only fishes a few hours in the mornings and late afternoons. The scary thing is he's out by himself most of the time.

I'm 67 and still gettin out there. i live on the water and my boat is in slings in my backyard, so it makes it a little easier on me than some others. i fish with a 72 and a 77 yr old. the 77 yr old is a flounder boat gigging guy. if you slow down, you die! i'm just now getting over a knee replacement and the 7 week lay off is really making it hard to get back up to speed, but it's getting easier every day.

I'm 57 and still bank and surf fish. Can still do a 24 hr grind . The catch up takes a little longer now. My biggest problem since Ive reached middle age is the heat.

I had 3 guys today on a wade fishing trip. I was the young pup today at 62. Paul Brown 82, Maurice Eslinbaum 77, Bobby Hardy 64 & Dan Ward also 64. They wore the trout out! No sitting around for them! Check out Paul Brown the Corky Man.
