I noticed an article showing bait boats back east selling live shrimp and live croakers right off the boat out on the water. Why doesn't the live bait boat here sell out on the water?

There was once a boat from hackberry that had a "Bait" sign on it.
He works the ship channel from hackberry to wash out. |

We used to pull up next to shrimp boats and throw them cash and beer for bait. But that was 15+ years ago.

It's hard to sell on the water unless you have an extra crewman dedicated to selling. Bait boats can't make long drags, so they are working their nets or culling almost non-stop. I've seen fishermen make some stupid moves trying to get ahead of someone else at the bait boat.

Bait boats aren't all they're cracked up to be. Takes forever to get bait at prime fishing times. Imagine 20 boats lined up - several cutting line, cross words, drama - each having to secure to a shrimp boat. You think watching a launch is funny, try this.
